About the event

Gabriel Prokofiev, composition & live electronics Dimitar Bodurov, piano

Gabriel Prokofiev is a London-based composer, producer, DJ and founder of the Nonclassical label. Gabriel has distinguished himself as a new voice in classical music in the United Kingdom in the early 21st century. His compositions have been performed in venues ranging from the Royal Albert Hall and Tchaikovsky Hall to nightclubs and warehouses in East London. Prokofiev is the author of a significant body of orchestral and chamber works, including seven concertos (three for gramophone and orchestra), as well as many electronic works, often combining synthesizers and samples with classical instruments. Gabriel will be making a special guest appearance at RADAR Festival as a composer and performer, presenting his own works for piano and electronics and viola and electronics. He will also be part of the AI talks The future of music in the era of AI.

His works have been performed internationally by orchestras such as the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, MDR Leipzig, the Copenhagen Philharmonic, the Luxembourg Philharmonic, Buenos Aires Philharmonic and others. He also frequently collaborates with contemporary dance companies such as Stuttgarter Ballet, Rambert Dance, Bern Ballet, Shobana Jeyasingh, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Alexander Whitley Dance and Gandini Juggling. In 2019, his first full-length opera, Elisabeth, premiered at the Regensburg Opera in Bavaria. Gabriel Prokofiev is also an events curator, producer and founder of Nonclassical, a record label and club night that is home to a range of artists who defy convention. Through Nonclassical, he is a leading advocate for the presentation of classical music in unconventional venues; and regularly plays at nightclubs, halls and electronic music festivals in East London, often DJing and remixing live works that have just been performed.

The concert is supported by Fund Culture of Varna Municipality.
