About the event

Paul Jarret, guitar • Jim Black, drums • Jozef Dumoulin, fender rhodes • Julien Pontvianne, saxophone

Guitarist Paul Jarret and drummer Jim Black share a strong taste for adventurous improvisation rooted in free music, while being deeply immersed in the indie rock culture of the 1990s. Together, they created the project Ghost Songs based on compositions by Paul Jarret, written specifically to present an entirely new and original work. Built around deliberately simple, almost pop or folk-like melodies, the project aims to let the individual and collective expression of these strong musical personalities unfold freely, leaving ample space for sound, silence, improvisation, and interaction. Within these very open musical spaces, improvisation is always guided by expressive and moving melodies, almost childlike in their simplicity. These songs, forming the raw material of the repertoire, appear only as spectres – as ghosts barely visible yet constantly present, naturally shaping the atmosphere. Lingering in the background, they play with the memory of both musicians and listeners, appearing and disappearing in constantly shifting forms. For this project, Paul Jarret and Jim Black are joined by Jozef Dumoulin and Julien Pontvianne.

The concert is supported by Fund Culture of Varna Municipality.
