It was a warm summer evening in August 2014 in Varna (Bulgaria), it was pouring with rain, when the Dutch avant-garde trio Tin Men and the Telephone were about to play the first concert of the newly found Radar festival. Unexpectedly, quite a few people showed up and filled the venue. The reactions to the concert were astounding!

Splendor host is the innovative pianist and geek Tony Roe, who will meet the same day the beatbox world-champion Skiller (BG) and upcoming saxophone player Hristo Goleminov (PT/BG). Bodurov will play a set together with renowned trumpet player Rossen Zahariev – Roko (BG) and the drummer sensation Sun-Mi Hong (KOR).

Expect an adventure evening from jazz and improv to electronica and beatbox.

Rossen Zahariev is a Bulgarian trumpeter. He starts to play piano at the age of 7, and trumpet at the age of 10. After graduating from Sofia School of Music, studies at the Bulgarian Music Academy, Rotterdam Conservatory and Berklee College of Music. Plays the “emerging artists stage” at Woodstock ’99. While being a member of Bob Moses’ band, records in his albums “Nishoma” and “Universal Folk Song”. Winner of the 2018 “Crystal Lyre” for jazz artist of the yearin Bulgaria, Zahariev is on the forefront of contemporary Bulgarian Music, sought for his strong presence and ability to contribute to any musical situation, regardless of style or genre. Alongside composing original material, he is also leading several experimental formations working in the field of “instant composition”.

Born and raised in In-Cheon, Korea; Sun-Mi has a unique perspective of life after her last ten years in Amsterdam. With a signature of rooted groove in combination with well tempered outbursts, Sun-Mi has placed herself strongly in the Dutch jazz scene. By approaching the moment in a somewhat meditative fashion, she achieves the ability to bring something entirely original to the band stand.

Her last album ‘A Self-Strewn Portrait’ (ZenneZ Records) has won the prize of the Edison Award 2021 in National category. She is the winner of the Dutch Jazz Competition 2018 and the 2nd Prize of the Getxo International Jazz Competition 2017 (Sun-Mi Hong Quintet), She just released a new album with her quintet on Edition Records on the 18th of November 2022.

Tony Roe transitioned smoothly into a musical career after studying design, music technology, which he followed with conservatory studies. Since 2009 his band Tin Men and the Telephone has been a laboratory for his PhD work. He also performs and tours with various bands and ensembles.

SkilleR (Alexander Deyanov) is a beatboxer from Sofia, Bulgaria. Known as the ‘ fast mouth’ from the East, he has brought the art of beatboxing to mass attention in Bulgaria. He is the first national beatbox champion (2007). 

With more than 60,000,000 views on Youtube and over 200,000 followers in the social media, SkilleR enjoys worldwide recognition. Despite his age, he has successfully toured countries like USA, China, Brazil, India, France, Japan, England, South Korea, Argentina, Uruguay, Russia, Germany, and many others. 

A significant highlight in Skiller’s career is the successful collaboration with the Grammy award winning choir – The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices and Lisa Gerrard in the album ‘BooCheeMish’, where he is featured in four songs.

SkilleR is currently working on his first solo album.
